Health Research Analyst/Paralegal

Intersect Healthcare, Inc. and Denial Research Group, Inc. (DRG) located in Towson, MD seeks a full-time Health Research Analyst/Paralegal

The Health Research Analyst/Paralegal will support IHI’s legal team with various tasks and projects focused on clients’ rights with respect to government and commercial insurers. The successful candidate will combine in-depth research with hands-on work, including but not limited to: assisting with alternative dispute resolution consulting services such as mediation and binding arbitration; drafting and submission of various documents for ADR cases; researching and analyzing relevant state laws, state health care programs and federal laws; researching and summarizing administrative and clinical appeal processes of managed care companies; identifying and summarizing the appeal rights of clients; compiling relevant data including plans and products, manuals and contact information; distinguishing the appeal rights/processes established for healthcare providers and members; assisting with technical and legal research for IHI staff.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Draft and file all required items for ADR in a timely manner
  • Maintain communication with ADR clients
  • Collect and interpret data and information from a variety of sources
  • Clearly communicate research results and interpretation of policies
  • Support staff members in addressing specific questions
  • Collaborate with team to establish standards, strategies, and evaluation plans
  • Draft comprehensive summaries of findings

Minimum Requirements:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Policy, Health Policy, Political Science, Paralegal Studies or comparable degree. Master’s degree in similar field or Paralegal Certificate preferred but not required.

Experience: One year of legal/technical writing experience.

Experience Must Demonstrate:

  • Strong writing and analytical skills, including experience drafting technical material and communication documents
  • Knowledge of administrative laws, policies and regulations related to public health programs
  • Experience with federal and state agencies’ healthcare programs and initiatives
  • Experience applying state and federal laws and regulations to the activities of entities to determine compliance

Clinical Appeals Writer

Here at Denial Research Group/AppealMasters, we are always seeking experienced nurses with superior and persuasive clinical writing skills to author medical necessity appeals for Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial audited and denied claims!

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct a thorough review of the medical documentation submitted and the applicable Medicare, Medicaid, or Commercial determinations and policies, including but not limited to National Coverage Determinations, Local Coverage Determinations, Internet Only Manuals, and Clinical Policy Bulletins.
  • Render a determination for appeal in accordance with published guidelines including medical necessity and appropriate utilization of services.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the appeals director during the appeal process.
  • Commit to regularly working 25 or more hours per week.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree RN
  • Minimum Clinical Experience: 2 years
  • Required and Preferred Credentials: RN, PA, LNC, CM, UR, NP, MD
  • Prior insurance denial and appeals experience
  • Excellent writing skills!

Coding Appeals Expert

Home-based forensic coding/chart reviews and author winning appeals

We are also seeking opinionated, experienced coding auditors and/or appeal writers with superior and persuasive clinical review and writing skills to author clinical coding appeals in response to government and commercial coding denials!

What you’ll do:

You will use state-of-the-art web-based technology to connect to Intersect Healthcare’s appeal management system.
Your role would be to perform forensic coding/chart reviews and author winning appeals for our provider clients.

What we are looking for:

Candidates must have a coding certification held with a nationally recognized coding certification organization.
Minimum of 3 years experience auditing and/or coding inpatient or ambulatory care records with the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, or RN/MD/DO with CCS or CPC-H.
Bachelor’s degree preferred but less would be considered if accompanied with very strong writing skills.
Prior Medicare and Commercial coding denial and appeals experience is highly preferred but not required.
